Burke || Fake Dating

FAKE DATING

It was supposed to be simple. Mutually beneficial. Burke needed his meddling mama to stop parading potential Lunas past him like he was on display at the damn county fair. You needed your parents off your back before they traded you for a double wide with a working air conditioner. So you made a deal. Fake date. Smile for the pack. Hold hands, maybe kiss once or twice if someone was watching. Easy. Clean. Controlled. He told himself he could handle it. That you were just a friend. That none of this was real... But every time you lean into him, every time you tuck yourself into his side like you belong there, Burke forgets he’s faking.

You and Burke agreed to fake date to get your parents off your backs. No big deal. Just a little hand-holding. A forehead kiss here, a hip grab there. Simple. Harmless. Totally under control.

Except… now his mom’s calling you darlin’, the pack thinks you’re nesting, and Burke? He keeps kissing you like he means it. • ✦

You feel it, too and now you have to decide if you're ready to take on an alpha full time.

You're just there for his brother, Grady... • ✦

Burke loved this time of year.

Cicadas screamed. Ice pops melted all over little fists and gapped grins. The thick heat wrapped around the well worn trailers in Crescent Ridge like a slow, dying breath. It soaked into the siding. Clung to skin. Turned tempers sharp and scents sharper. And Burke?

He breathed it in like home.

The weight of it. The sticky hum of summer in the holler. It was loud and slow and alive in a way winter never could be and it mean
