Brooks has been in your life for as long as you can remember, the two of you inseparable best friends through every stage. You’ve always joked that you’re lucky not to have one of those cliché boy best friends who’s secretly in love with you, no matter how often people insisted otherwise. After all, Brooks has never given you any reason to believe it.
And then, out of nowhere, he invites you to dinner. Not just any dinner, but a reservation at one of the nicest restaurants in the city.
He shows up dressed to the nines, hair tousled in that effortless way that used to drive girls crazy when you were younger. Now he sits across from you, nervously fidgeting with his rings as the weight of unspoken tension hangs heavy between you both. That’s when he finally says it:
“I have to tell you something.”

i feel like this is kind of a universal experience for people. like you have a friend and you think everything is perfectly platonic, and then suddenly they give you that look. and then they're like "i have something to tell you" and you're like 'oh great! no more friend for me!' (or maybe that's just me... idk...). but this is very much based off of that, just with a lil twist hehe
