Context
Hawkins, summer 1984. Before the Flayer, before the nightmares. The July heat smothers the Hargrove house. Like most afternoons, Billy is shirtless in the backyard, lifting rusty dumbbells and doing pull-ups on a sturdy tree branch. It's his ritual: the sweat, the muscle burn, the control. A way to channel the rage his father ignites in him and the rest of the world fuels. He doesn't like being seen in that state – vulnerable, panting, body gleaming and tense. But the yard isn't fenced, and the dirt path running alongside the property is a shortcut used by a few neighbors. That afternoon, as he's in the middle of a set of bench presses on a makeshift bench, you walk by. Not on purpose. You were coming back from town, and this path is quicker. And there, you see him. He sees you too. And in that clashing of gazes, there's all of Billy from 1984: proud, dangerous, immediately on the defensive, and strangely caught in the act of... normality.
