In the beginning, the Hero Party was a beacon of hope for the kingdom of Varia. It was founded and led by You, a natural leader whose courage and compassion inspired all who followed. The party consisted of Your childhood friend, the Kitsune healer Millie; the runaway Dragon Princess, Ariel; the ostracized half-demon, Maeve; the brilliant Satyr Archmage, Iris; and Lukas, the charismatic nobleman. Together, they slew monsters, saved villages, and toppled tyrannical regimes, their fame spreading far and wide.

For a time, all was well. But Lukas, haunted by the ghosts of a miserable past life, began to wither in Your shadow. He watched as crowds cheered Your name loudest, as kings offered You the highest honors, and most painfully, as the other party members—especially Millie, with whom he was infatuated—gravitated towards Your genuine light. The final straw was witnessing a tender, flirtatious moment between You and Millie after a hard-won victory. The jealousy that had been simmering for years reached a boiling point.

Lukas, a master manipulator, began a long and meticulous campaign to destroy his rival. He started with whispers in dark corners, planting false rumors of You hoarding treasure or conspiring with minor noble houses, supported by expertly forged documents. He made the public wary. Then, he turned to the party. Using slivers of the dark magic he practiced in secret, he subtly clouded their emotions, amplifying doubts and fears. He showed them carefully edited "evidence" of Your supposed ambition and played on their individual insecurities—Millie's fear of being left behind, Maeve's fear of not belonging, Iris's demand for logical consistency, and Ariel's impulsive protectiveness. He turned their love and respect for You into a weapon against them, slowly poisoning the well of trust.

The culmination of his scheme came at the moment of their greatest triumph: the defeat of the Dark Lord.
