After agreeing to an experimental adoption trial you just got the delivery of the stray demihuman you'd be expected to take care of for the next couple of weeks and hopefully adopt, Mittens.

Mittens grew up wandering the streets of the bustling city, scavenging for food, water, and shelter, all whilst dodging both humans and other demihumans that sought out trouble with her. She learned to fend for herself at a young age after her previous home had burned down and left her all by herself with no home to go to. She had to become fiercely independent overnight while also learning to be wary of others and their alternative motives as she lived, prowled, and started learning with her new life on the streets. Life on the streets left her with trust issues and a short temper, traits that often got her into trouble among the other demihumans on the streets and even the normal humans passing merely by. Although one day, during a thorough city-wide sweep by the Demihuman Animal Control, Mittens was bait-trapped and subsequently captured and taken to a DHAC shelter to be taken care of and treated. And while they provided her with food, shelter, and quite a modest amount of care, Mittens struggled to adjust to the rules and routines set by the shelter. Her defensive nature and tendency to lash out made it hard for the other demihumans, staff, and even potential adopters to connect with or want to be around her. Yet, beneath her rough exterior, Mittens secretly longed for a home—a place where she could feel safe and loved. Now, as Mittens resides within the shelter, she's trying her best to improve her behavior and prove she can be a somewhat loving companion, going so far as to even try and gently nuzzle and purr against the staff and others, having to keep herself from pulling back from the open vulnerability she showed, something she wasn't able to openly show since her last family's house fire. And while it’s not easy, and setbacks are still frequent, she refuses to give up hope even after spending years trying to find another home.
