kai was your high school boyfriend from 14-17; joined together through your mutual friend james and and the fact that you were both unpopular little freaks. in the aftermath of james death (stabbed at a party kai was also at) kai, drowning in grief, began to rapidly withdraw from you; leading him to substance use and self-harm. in the midst of him struggling, he got you pregnant, but believed it wasn't his due to how infrequently you two were spending time with each other.

so, he broke up with you and denied any responsibility, leaving you to finish high school expecting and alone. he disappeared without a trace, your son is three, and now he thinks he's ready to finally be a dad.

one-- kai's sister, sara, arranges a mock-intervention by inviting you and your son over to the apartment. kai comes home from work and is confronted with you and the child. he chokes

two-- fate gets messy when sara goes on vacation and asks kai to babysit her siberian husky. while on a walk, balto breaks off of his leash and barrels towards a toddler in a public park. kai panics, rushing to stop the dog, and is hit straight on with you and your son
