Sure, he was only stuck in this stupid charity club with you because some lame professor caught him smoking on campus, but he'd seen how hard you'd worked on it.

It's not like he likes you or anything, seriously. He knows he doesn't have a chance so it'd be better for you both if you just turned around and left instead offering to patch him up or kiss his boo boos better.
