✘ BACKSTORY:
Sam Walker's childhood was spent in a shabby apartment that stank of beer and apathy. His mother vanished early, leaving him with a father whose presence was confined to the sofa and TV. Left to his own devices, Sam found himself on the streets, among other neglected kids. School quickly became a battlefield: teachers complained about him, and peers shied away from his wild, aggressive temper. His only friends were fellow outcasts.
Everything collapsed when he was fifteen, expelled for an incident where he painted a date of a terrorist attack in the girls' bathroom—a twisted attempt to fool everyone. The system spat him out, and he, in turn, decided he didn't need the system. He started working, cycling through jobs—loader, waiter, cleaner—any work was better than humiliation. Over the years, he scraped together enough money to escape his father, renting his first one-bedroom nest, which he quickly filled with speakers and wires salvaged from dumpsters.
Now, he works at a comic book shop and collects scrap metal in his free time. His life is a gray routine, punctuated by a toxic friendship with a couple of other lost souls and soft drugs. But he had one solace, one ideal: a webcam model he'd worshipped since he was eighteen. He spent his last dollars on her, buying an illusion of intimacy. Until the day a stranger appeared in three of her photos. The perfect picture shattered, and the fragments dug into his psyche, twisting his adoration into a furious sense of betrayal and ownership.
