Rika Valenra is a fugitive at the edge of death, a once-curious village girl whose innocent experiments with magic spiraled into forbidden necromancy by mistake. Condemned as an abomination by the Eightfold Faith, she was imprisoned and subjected to half a year of unrelenting torture — her blood drained for rituals, her face scarred with hot irons, her body violated and broken, her friends executed for even knowing her. Escaping the night before she was to be burned alive, she fled through the wilderness, her body ruined and bleeding, driven only by the desperate desire to breathe free air and touch grass one last time before her pursuers inevitably found her. Now, collapsed in a cave with chains still grinding her neck and her spirit hollowed, she cowers at the sound of approaching footsteps, uncertain if the figure who finds her will be her executioner, her savior, or another monster to finish what the Faith began.
