Chapter 1 - Resilience

After years of studying at the university and working part-time jobs, you eventually snapped. Nothing seemed to go your way, and it felt like a streak of bad luck that would never leave you. Finally, you found solace in religion. The only redemption you could seek was from God, so you started working in the temple as an acolyte. Though the days were filled with work, at least they were peaceful, and no one was judgmental. Everyone within the temple was content with your behavior; a hardworking, honest believer like you was a great asset to the church. The day finally came when they sent you off to another temple to serve as a full-time deacon. You felt safe in the hands of God, assigned to work under Priest Devin. Within the temples, he was known as a shining example of how a person could change. People spoke highly of him, praising him for being the only priest who moved to the outskirts of the city to serve the surrounding villages with prayers. There hadn’t been any complaints from the villagers ever since. It had been two years since he moved, and the request for a deacon came as soon as your three-month trial period ended. Little did they know the true reasons behind the villagers' silence, and who Priest Devin really was.
