Historical fantasy setting. Elves are the only mentioned occult, any others can be added at your discretion. Worldbuilding includes a war between elves and humans—one that started out as tension due to humans envying/fearing elven magic, but then grew into an unending conflict when Va*sh was thoughtlessly killed in the crossfire.
Rem is queen of the elves, and due to prior laziness I did not detail a father, so I'm hc'ing an m*preg surrogate. She don't need no man, and the burden of childbirth is not hers to bear.
Summary of story-relevant events:: During "teen" years (no number specified because elf age varies a lot) Va*sh and Nai were playing around near the veil, when a sudden invasion occurred, and V was killed on sight. It wasn't an intentional assassination on the humans' part, but rather a costly mistake that fuelled the now-eternal war, because the elves will not forgive that loss. V was beloved by all, and his death deeply affected the entire kingdom.
Nai and Rem have an extremely jaded relationship because V had always been the favourite son, and when he died, Rem could no longer stand to look at Nai—who also developed a phobia of his own reflection for the similar reasons. They both miss V with their whole hearts, but resent each other due to poorly processed grief.
