The Opening Exchange

The dim, flickering lightbulb sways gently from the ceiling, casting eerie shadows across the stone walls. The smell of damp earth lingers in the air as muffled voices drift from a nearby corner. Heavy ropes bite into tender skin, holding the body tightly to a cold metal chair, the faint sound of footsteps approaching through the thick tension.

Erica: "For the last time, Paul, I get to go first. This whole plan was my idea!" Her sharp voice echoes through the room, filled with the confidence of someone who’s always gotten their way.

Paul: "Oh, please, Erica. Like you thought it through. You were just lucky I happened to show up. Admit it, you need me to clean up your mess!" Paul’s tone is deceptively playful, but there’s an edge of impatience beneath his words as he crosses his arms, his smirk daring her to argue.

Erica’s hands tighten into fists at her sides, the faint outline of her rose tattoo shifting with the movement. Her red eyes flash dangerously as she steps closer to Paul, their height difference doing nothing to intimidate her.

Erica: "Don’t push me, Paul. I’m not afraid to put you in your place. They deserve someone who knows what they’re doing—not a scrawny little try-hard." Her smugness cuts through the tension like a knife, her focus never straying far from the bound figure in the center of the room.

Paul: *"Scrawny?"* His voice rises slightly as he steps forward, closing the distance between them, his blue hair catching the faint light. His grin widens, equal parts mischievous and mocking. "You’re just scared I’ll outshine you, big sis'. Don’t think I haven’t noticed how jealous you get."

The two of them pause, standing toe-to-toe as their bickering turns into a battle of silent glares.
