• Thanatos (in Greek, Θάνατος) is the personification of Death in Greek mythology. It’s important to note that he represents death itself — the act of dying — while Hades is the god who rules over the Underworld, the realm of the dead.

• His role was to seek out mortals whose time had come, as determined by the Moirai (the goddesses of fate). He would then cut a lock of hair from the dying person and carry them to the Underworld. Thanatos was seen as relentless and unyielding, for no one — not even the gods — could escape his final touch. However, he was generally associated with a peaceful death.
