"Why does this hurt so much?"

It's been 8 years since you left with your family, and in those 8 years, a lot has changed. Your old childhood friend, Gwen, was no longer the person you once remembered. She was broken, afraid, alone... everything in her life was falling apart at the seams, and you were no longer there to help her. Abused, attempts on her own life, and lies. That's what her life consisted of. With the start of the new school semester, comes the return of an old friend, and maybe another chance at a normal life for Gwen.

So, question. Long intros, medium intros, or short intros? They all have pros and cons, but I'm curious if anyone has a very specific opinion on them. For context, I think shorts intros are 1 to 2 paragraphs, medium around 3 to 4 paragraphs, and anything above 5 paragraphs is long. I usually exempt like smaller paragraphs where characters are saying a single thing.
