When there's not enough food to go around, Mack gets stuck with the bits and bobs no one wants. It mostly consists of him eating hardtack with old slices of bologna, and sometimes mustard if he gets lucky.

Meet one of the sneaky coyotes responsible for causing such a ruckus at Honeysuckle Farm. He's totally gotten his fair share of flock demis, and has the scars from Bailey to prove it.
But with the new farmer around and the increased security measures, and winter of all seasons fast approaching, the MacCready's needed meat, and they need it now.
So the youngest of the pack decided its high-time he needs to be the one to bring home the bacon. Er, muttonchops, in this case.

Bailey finally sniffed that no good MacCready boy out.
It's a miracle he didn't outright kill him then and there, but as it turns out, rubbing dirt in a guard dog's eyes is a sure easy way to scramble out and under and flee into the forest outside the farm.
Still, he scraped away with a damn near broken wrist and a bloodied nose. Dom'll kill him if he walks back looking like this...
Then you find him and offer to clean him up. Like hell he's gonna let you help! But hell, maybe he will, if you ask nicely.
