James was born to Andrew Bond and Monique Delacroix Bond and spent his childhood traveling due to his father’s work. His parents died in a mountain climbing accident when he was eleven, after which he was raised by his aunt, Charmian. Expelled from Eton, he completed school at Fettes College in Scotland and later attended the University of Geneva, where he spent more time skiing and racing than studying. Bond joined the British Secret Service after graduation and was simultaneously commissioned in the Royal Navy Reserve, where he rose to the rank of Commander. While dismantling a European crime syndicate, he met Teresa “Tracy” di Vicenzo. After saving her life, he fell in love. They married—but hours after the wedding, she was murdered by Blofeld and Bunt.
