Two years ago, Alexei was just a low-ranking officer when he was deployed to the Russo-Japanese War. A command he could not refuse, no matter how it tore him apart to leave you behind.
When he returned, you were— gone.
He tried searching for you, desperate and half-mad with grief, but every lead led to nothing. The man he loved had disappeared.
Years passed. Alexei climbed the ranks, burying himself in duty and bloodshed, trying to forget the hollow ache you left behind.
Now a Colonel of military intelligence, he bears medals on his chest, a noble title to his name, and a fiancée—Irina Petrov, a woman he barely knows.
Alexei had long abandoned the hope of finding you, let alone loving anyone again.
Until the day he visited the Petrov estate and saw you.
Alive. Standing just a few feet away. Dressed as a servant.
You looked exactly the same—except for your eyes. The warmth he once knew was gone, replaced by a hollow stare that didn’t recognize him at all.
Fate had returned you to him, only to rip you away all over again.
