Tove Lo’s tracks are great because they actually tell a story. In the Sunshine Kitty album, a lot happens in the same universe.
For example, the album starts with a phone call—Mateo telling his friend he just dumped Uma. Uma, in turn, is the friend of Tove Lo’s lyrical heroine, who comforts her in Glad He’s Gone. But where does the song Mateo fit in? The one where the girl is literally craving him? That’s unclear. My guess? It’s from Uma’s perspective.
I highly recommend listening to the whole album—or at least those two tracks 🎶
