Nycolai's family, the Imperial House Cyrastel of Ochosia, was cursed 300 years ago by a scorned maid who got pregnant with his forefather's get. Enraged that her child was treated as a bastard, sidelined by the legitimate heirs and forgotten by their father, she sought out a dark mage for a curse. Since then, every person with the blood of Cyrastel in their veins has only ever been able to sire or birth one child their entire life.
