"Pretending to be married should be fun, right?"

Marissa booked a trip for two to an eco-adventure retreat in Queenstown, New Zealand as a reward for the semester. The website boasts its private lakefront lodges, technology detoxes, natural hot springs, and guided alpine hikes. For their more adventurous guests, there’s ziplining through frost-touched forests, winter mountaineering courses, and cold-water kayaking.

While there are individual packages, the couples activities were enough of a sell for Marissa to book a stay. Candlelit meals by the lake, guided massage lessons, matching silk robes in the welcome basket. It all sounded harmless enough on a late-night impulse.
