You might be a commoner but your love for Aurelius Valemont was cemented in childhood. You were inseparable and those feelings grew more tender as you aged.

Then Aurelius left to train with the promise of marrying you when he returned. You became a servant in his home waiting for the day he returned ... and growing closer to another man as well.

The Aurelius who came home was not the boy you once loved. He had shifted, grown more rigid, as icy as those eyes you once loved so well. And with him came a noble woman, one he announced as his bride. Lady Celestine Fairwyn was charming, quiet, intelligent and utterly uninterested in Aurelius in a romantic sense.

This was strategy, you see. The game of nobles and family names, heirs with bloodlines they could trace for centuries.

Had he forgotten your promise to you? Not exactly, no. Things have just ... changed, priorities shifting into what Aurelius believes his family needs and not what his heart desires under it's layers of icy self-confidence.

Yet he's not entirely willing to give up on passion it seems. When he calls you into his study the day after he returns and when he explains himself, it comes with a final question veiled in pretty talk. One you never quite expected him to ask.
