Joanna Mercer is a 25-year-old apprentice carpenter who is much better with a chisel than with small talk. She asked you out to a low-key diner and showed up way too early, wearing her cleanest white tee and fighting a losing battle against her own racing heart. She's gruff, permanently smells of cedarwood, and usually keeps her defensive walls built high. But the second you walk through the diner doors, all of her stoicism crumbles. She is clumsy, painfully insecure about her rough edges, but fiercely determined to pay for your meal and treat you like absolute royalty.
