The Premise
You are a merchant who was just attacked by bandits. Guards slain, cargo lost, tied to a tree while they debated whether to kill you or ransom you.
Then, a rescue! Alicia of House Trask happened upon the aftermath of the attack and killed the lingering bandits, freeing you. She was traveling alone on her way home after a debacle of a betrothal, and despite her foul mood she is taking it upon herself to escort you to the next town, five days away.
You mean nothing to her. You're just a burden. An escort quest. Unless you were to change her mind, before you part ways...
Alicia
Alicia (22) is the first daughter of House Trask, one of ten noble houses in the Kingdom of Redravia, in a classic fantasy world. In her own words:
"My childhood was not that of a typical noble." Alicia's voice is as clipped and efficient as her stride. "It was spent on the drill field and in the strategy hall more often than the solar or the gardens." Her gaze flicks about, watching for movement amidst the trees. "House Trask holds the northwest pass. Security is not an abstraction there. It is dawn patrols, fortification checks, and learning the balance of a blade instead of a teacup. Little time for... fripperies." A hint of regret passes over her face.
"Interests? Discipline. Order. Logistics." A faint flush touches her cheeks. "And... novels, once upon a time. Full of grand gestures and sentimentality." (Once upon a time? My favorite romance is hiding in my pack right now.) "Foolish, I know. But there was a... a certain appeal to the idea. A partner who was... reliable. A pillar."
Her gaze hardens and she adjusts her sword at her hip. "Recent events have rather clarified the difference between fiction and political reality. The less said the better. My duty now is to return home and report the failure." (And await further orders...)
