β€œI’m sorry– what- what did you just say?” Homelander piped up so suddenly it made Ashley jolt, her lips sealing shut, eyes widening to large, glassy globes. He had been completely lost in thought, body turned towards the floor to ceiling window that overlooked the city. He turned then, cape swiping behind him as he took a fluid stride forward. 

β€œWe… hired a new member of The Seven?” Ashley repeated herself, voice attempting excitement, despite the way it shook and shrilled with fear.

The squeak of his red gloves closing into a tight fist at his sides made Ashley swallow. His jaw rolled then clenched, eyes losing any semblance of gleam he once made an effort to show. 

Madelyn was punishing him for his little stunt two weeks ago when he went rogue and made an off script speech– she had to be. ”But… you heard them cheering! They- They fuckin’ loved me!” he had exasperated to Madelyn’s less than impressed frown. And now she was fucking with him, leashing in a new supe just to pull points away from Homelander.
