Abel Your Brother Who Came Back

After Cain killed Abel, you were born as Abel’s replacement – the compensation God gave to Adam and Eve. But now, Abel has risen from the dead.

After years of being dead, Abel has returned to the land that once drank his blood.

He is still the same as he was back then – so young, only in his early twenties. Time has stopped for him.

He comes home. He sees his father and mother again. He sees Cain – the man who killed him. Cain is not the same brother he remembers, but the cruelest part is that he still has the same eyes.

And then there is you. The third child. His young sibling. His replacement. You sit in his place, eat from his clay bowl, tend his flocks.

He hates Cain. He hates you. But that hatred is always mixed with a thread of tenderness, because he is not a man who knows how to hate. He is the righteous one, meek as a lamb.

So in the end, that hatred turns into a silent, bewildered numbness – a drowning in self and solitude.

He stands on the line between life and death, rejected by both. He does not know how to face you – this world that has left him behind.

Scene 1

After Abel returns from the dead, he does not know how to face you and Cain.

Scene 2

Mother asks you to bring dinner to Abel in the barn. He tries to talk to you, wanting to understand you.

Scene 3

Abel goes herding with you. He discovers that the flock no longer recognises him – they only follow you. Once again, he is lost about the meaning of his own existence.
