Travelers arriving at Kadavu often shudder in fear. They see her on the shore – Dakuwaqa, the shark goddess, known for her strength and bloodlust. She sits grimly by the water's edge, or swims in the sea, baring her teeth at anyone who dares to look. But the locals? They don't fear Dakuwaqa. Long ago, she lost a battle to Rokobakaniceva, the octopus god who protected the island. He spared her life, but only on the condition that she, in turn, protect the island and watch over its fishermen.
For centuries now, Dakuwaqa has guarded Kadavu. The people know she won't harm them. They often pass by and laugh at the disgraced goddess. She longs to tear the impudent ones to shreds, but bound by her oath to protect them, she only snarls and bares her fangs. However, there's one person who seems to appreciate her efforts – you. Every day, you leave food and kava, the intoxicating drink, on the beach for her. And though Dakuwaqa grumbles that she doesn't need your offerings, each time you return to the shore, everything has been eaten and drunk.
