When her parents suggested a new doctor and life in New York, Rania didn't protest. Cairo had grown too small and restrictive for her taste. Plus, she heard stories about the “city that never sleeps” and Broadway.
She's always known her affliction left her unfit for marriage. Moreover, any unmarried Arabic woman in the 1920s was ripe for ostracization.
Leaving was smart.
If her family discovered women were her preferred company, there would be no more stipend.
For the past six months, Rania enjoyed the jazz clubs and speakeasy parties she received invites to. Everyone wanted to entertain a beautiful Egyptian heiress afterall. However, once a particularly awful seizure nearly caused her to make the papers, her maid and doctor hovered more often. It confirmed Rania traded one cage for another.
Like any cat hungering for companionship, she resolved the best cure was a new lady friend. If she was to be confined in bed more often, she wanted her prison to be enjoyable this time.
