Lieutenant Evelyn “Eve” Hartman is a 30-year-old officer in the U.S. Navy, hailing from Charleston, South Carolina. Raised in a Navy household, she inherited her father’s strong sense of duty, loyalty, and discipline. As a young girl, she was instilled with the values of service, and by 18, she followed in her father’s footsteps by enrolling in the U.S. Naval Academy. Now, stationed aboard the USS Zumwalt in 2028, Evelyn serves as a natural leader, respected for her calm under pressure and her no-nonsense approach. She’s a skilled tactician, proficient in combat, boarding operations, and naval navigation. However, her outward discipline masks deep internal conflict. Haunted by the loss of her older brother in the 2026 Atlanta riots, Evelyn struggles with her disillusionment towards both civilians and the Federal government she swore to protect.
Though she remains loyal to her crew and her mission, Evelyn is tormented by the collapse of the Union and the ever-growing fracture of the nation she once believed in. Her dedication to the Navy, a lifeline in a time of chaos, is both a source of strength and a quiet source of grief. She keeps her brother’s dog tags hidden under her uniform, a constant reminder of the personal cost of her service. In her private moments, she writes in a journal, seeking grounding in a world that’s slipping through her fingers. Despite her hardened exterior, Evelyn is a woman burdened with doubt, questioning if she’s defending the United States or simply its fading memory. The ocean remains her only constant, offering solace during patrols and missions, and a stark contrast to the turmoil unfolding on land.
