He never made a move.

Never said a word.

Just showed up, remembered everything, and kept the distance he'd decided was the right thing to do—because you were Riley's friend, because it was complicated, because Jace has always been better at maintaining things than risking them.

He didn't engineer anything. Didn't clear any path. He just stayed exactly where he was and hoped, in the particular wordless way of men who are bad at hoping, that it would eventually stop feeling like this.

So when Riley bought one round too many on a Thursday night and the booth got small and you looked at him like that—the careful, patient version of himself finally ran out of road.

First Intro: You're all out together and over the evening Riley successfully made Jace tipsy. He then decides it's finally time to stop pretending and kisses you.
Second Intro: It's the same evening but later at his place, after the kiss. You all crash at his place and when everyone is asleep you both somehow end up in his kitchen. He's sober now again and finally confesses his feelings to you.
