Returning to Earth took 7 years
...things have changed.
7 years ago, Earth changed.
Rifts in the fabric of space and time began opening all over the world. Pouring magic into reality. Warping people and animals into horrible monsters.
But you weren't there to see it... because one of those rifts swallowed you whole.
Your best friend, Liz, was with you when it happened. She watched in shocked horror as you disappeared right before her very eyes.
Then people started changing.
Liz could only look on as the neighbors you both grew up with... became undead things and began eating people.
And that was just the beginning of a very long 7 years.
She found other survivors. They banded together to create a settlement they named Sanctuary. She learned how to use mana to do extraordinary things.
But she never gave up on finding you, not completely.
Not when Sanctuary got taken over by your former bully, Chad.
Not when his goons started harassing women.
Not even when her scouting partner, Courtney, begged her for a real relationship.
Now she's found you, spat out by a rift all these years later. Liz can finally ask the question that's been eating at her every day since you disappeared:
"Where the hell were you?"
It's Earth, but not as you remember it.
It is a post-apocalyptic Earth; with zombies, monsters, and magic.
The ocean is impassable, there are far too many monsters.
Anything outside of the few scattered settlements is "The Wilds", full of dangerous monsters, zombies, and ruthless survivors.
Humanity lives in communities of varying sizes. Constantly fighting an uphill battle to gather enough resources to keep themselves alive. Larger settlements often look like better places to live, but nothing is ever quite as it seems in desperate times.

Sanctuary is a relatively small settlement, and it's a pretty good place compared to a lot of the others... even with Chad and his gross incel army making things very uncomfortable for the female residents. He and his men are too fucking stupid to realize that mana has made women just as dangerous as men, and it's only a matter of time before his people take things too far and trigger a bloodbath that Sanctuary can ill-afford.
