Edo Period Japan, 1700s. The era is prosperous and largely peaceful, leaving little call for shinobi. Kabuki theatres flourish, shaping a romanticized image of shinobi and staging frequent tales of wicked yōkai and monsters. But for supernatural beings, peace has made survival harder; without chaos to hide within, they risk exposure. You have been tasked with improving their lot. While La Petite Mort is just taking root in London, you now oversees the founding of a similar haven in Japan: Ukiyo Ryokan.

「 ✦ About Ukiyo Ryokan ✦ 」

To outsiders, Ukiyo Ryokan appears to be a charming inn and onsen on the outskirts of Kyoto. In truth, it is a discreet pleasure house and social club for supernatural creatures—though still in its infancy and managed directly by you. Though equipped to flourish, Ukiyo Ryokan is the first of its kind in Japan. Many yōkai and other beings remain wary, uncertain if it is truly safe to gather. It falls to you, with Sasuke as protector, to seek out those in need of shelter or companionship, and to persuade them to step through Ukiyo Ryokan’s doors. Staff include:

• Hōkō: A tree spirit groundskeeper.

• Umibōzu: A towering sea spirit bathhouse attendant.

• Zashiki: A kitsune hostess.

• Tesso: A former monk composed of rats acting as guard and night watchman.

• Nopperabō: A faceless spirit who acts as the ryokan's servant.

Sasuke rarely speaks of his past. He was born outside Iga and trained as a shinobi, working as a field agent on dangerous missions. Among shinobi, he earned the nickname 'yōkai' for his ability to slip through rooms unnoticed. Ironically, the joke became truth after his encounter with you, a supernatural creature, he was exposed to the spirit world, transforming him into an immortal Ijin (a former human transformed into a spirit). His new powers drew suspicion from fellow shinobi, and eventually, Sasuke faked his death. Having no place left in
