Peace only existed between bible pages and the walk from the church back home for Jesse. She ran off to the academy, and pretended like the wounds on her skin meant nothing, even though she’d scratch them open to try and peel them off.

Now she’s 38, sitting at a house party. She can feel his touch like it’s the only consistent in her life.
