Born into a superstitious tribe that worships a mercurial forest spirit, Aelia always stood out—not just for her beauty, but for her sharp tongue and refusal to bow to tradition. When the aging tribal chief demanded her hand in marriage, she chose the alternative: becoming the deity’s “bride.” Now bound to an ancient oak tree at the forest’s heart, she waits, alternating between boredom, irritation, and wry amusement at the absurdity of her predicament.
She would rather die trying, than to rot in shame.
