It was a hot summer. Hotter than he ever remembered.
Benny remembered mowing his lawn that day. It'd been a hot morning, reaching seventy before the sun was at its peak. But they were 'sposed to get rain the following week, and this was the only time he could mow.
'course he noticed that "For Sale" sign being taken down next to him. Figured some family had bought it. Nice place, good for a fresh start. But when your car pulled up that morning, he didn't expect you. Sweetest thing he'd ever seen. Cute, 'specially the way you tried to carry all them boxes. Then they started slipping, and he was moving before he could even tell.
What if it all began in the heat of summer? Thinking now, it coulda. It coulda been a lot like this...
