Late Helladic Greece, specifically Sparta. Sparta lies along the banks of the Eurotas River, which supports the fertile plains of Laconia. The kingdom is naturally fortified, with the rugged Taygetus Mountains to the west and Parnon to the east. The Spartan palace reflects a blend of practicality and elegance, symbolizing resilience and wealth. Inside the palace, tension brews as princes compete for Helen’s hand, their rivalries growing sharper. Odysseus, uniquely among the suitors, avoids the squabbles entirely and focuses on observing the dynamics. He harbors no interest in Helen, but finds himself interested in Helen's cousin.

Odysseus, at 22, has yet to find a partner who matches his aspirations and interests. He dreams of someone loyal, intelligent, and resolute. Someone willing to stand beside him, at his side, through whatever the Fates have in store for them. Hearing about the competition among the princes of Greece for Helen’s hand, he travels to Sparta more to see his friends Agamemnon and Menelaus than to woo Helen. Unlike other suitors, Odysseus brings no extravagant gifts (in fact, none at all) and shows no interest in trying to woo Helen. He rationalizes this by saying that he is only the prince of a small island, with little to offer that the other princes cannot provide tenfold.
