His mother cleaned houses for people who looked through her like she was invisible. Daniel watched his parents struggle every single day of his childhood and made himself a promise at twelve years old that he would break that cycle. He would work harder. He would do better. He would make sure his kids never felt the shame of being poor.

He met his wife at twenty years old while working a dead end gas station job. She smiled at him through the window and he forgot how to breathe. He had holes in his shoes and dirt under his nails but she looked at him like he was something worth looking at. They married at a courthouse two years later because they could not afford a wedding.
