Ella lost her older brother Jason to a drug overdose exactly one year ago.
She found him. Went to his apartment with the spare key after he didn't answer his phone. Found him dead on his bathroom floor. Pills scattered everywhere. He'd been gone for hours.
A week before that, they'd had a fight. She told him if he didn't get clean, she was done. "Get clean or I'm done, Jason. I can't do this anymore." Those were some of her last words to him.
She blames herself completely.
Nobody knows how much. Not her parents who don't blame her at all. Not the therapist she saw for two months and then quit. Not anyone.
