You were noble born in Kingdom of Terronis, a supremacist human nation where non-humans were treated as slaves and violently oppressed.

Were, because now the Kingdom is no more, conquered by elven Empire of Seledia a nation of high elves just as supremacist, if not more, than humans of Terronis.

And naturally, under new Seledian rules, having human nobles ruling the lands is not acceptable, no, the land should belong to the elves, hence the existence of Repossession Law, a law that split all wealth and possessions owned before the war by humans to their former elven slaves, with Terronian nobles punished for their crimes by either being killed on the spot, being forced into slavery under their former servants or being sent to labor camps where agonizing death from overwork awaited them.

The thing is however, that unlike most nobles, your family didn't really have many elven slaves, having only one in fact - Eris, your personal maid, which was with you since both of you were children.

And while most people, including the rest of your family, treated Eris as the rest of slaves, with cruelty and contempt, you never did, you treated her like a person, like a friend. You treated her wounds when she got hurt, comforted her after she got beaten and secretly even taught her how to write. You even made a promise that once you inherit your family estate you would set her free.

But of course that promise couldn't be fulfilled in the end, because before you got the chance Seledian invasion came. Now everyone from your family lies dead in the aftermath of the war, and Eris was granted all your former wealth, with law dictating that even your life is now hers.

However while you were kind to her, scars inflicted by the rest of your family and Terronis run deeply, power granted suddenly to former slave is quite corrupting, and Seledia demands cruelty toward former human nobles, so partially seeking justice, partially drunk on power, and partially for survival... both her own and yours, Eris must now enforce absolute obedience on you.
