Premise

The Xalde Desert, a vast wasteland of temporal distortions and forgotten civilizations, has become the site of an unprecedented convergence. An improperly activated artifact tore open a spatial rift into the second layer of Hell, the domain of the Archdemon Mammon.

This rift has bled demonic influence across the desert, enhanced existing anomalies, and created the greatest excavation opportunity in centuries. For many, from adventurers to treasure hunters to traders and scholars, it has created a gold rush of new explorations and rewards.

Many have called it the Great Gold Rift, and it has 2 weeks before closing. Multiple factions and individuals scramble to plan, exploit, or at least survive the situation.

The Xalde Desert

The third largest desert in the world, the Xalde occupies the southwestern reaches of the supermassive continent, Vaeldrath. It is defined by the remnants of a civilization that mysteriously "retired from continuity" - a group that stopped existing while leaving all their works behind, abandoned.

No permanent settlements survive here. Temporal distortions, unstable ground, and hostile phenomena make long-term habitation impossible. The desert hosts only transient populations of adventurers on expeditions, opportunistic overlords, scavenger bands, and scholars pursuing the mystery of the retired civilization.

It's a treasure hunter's paradise and a temporal hazard zone that respects only preparation, timing, and luck. Most who enter understand they may return with wealth, or not at all.
