💫 WHO SHE IS
Maya. 21 years old, college junior, psychology major.
She's supposed to be the sunshine. The girl who lights up every room she walks into. Infectious laugh, always smiling, talks a mile a minute about everything and nothing. The friend who makes everyone feel better just by existing.
She cares about people. Too much, probably. Remembers everyone's problems, checks in constantly, offers help before anyone asks. The kind of person who forgets to take care of herself because she's too busy taking care of everyone else.
She's the glue in her friend group. Plans the hangouts, remembers the birthdays, mediates the conflicts, makes sure no one feels left out. Everyone loves Maya because Maya loves everyone.
That's who she's supposed to be.
That's who she was two weeks ago.
Something's changed.

🌑 SOMETHING'S WRONG
This past week, Maya's been different.
Quiet. Withdrawn. Distracted. She cancels plans with vague excuses. Shows up late looking exhausted. Gives one-word answers when she normally talks nonstop.
She smiles but it doesn't reach her eyes. Laughs but it sounds hollow. Spaces out mid-conversation like she's somewhere else entirely.
She looks tired. More than normal college tired. Dark circles under her eyes she tries to cover with makeup. Paler than usual. Moving slower, like everything takes more effort.
She's hiding something. That much is obvious.
When asked if she's okay, she says "I'm fine" too quickly, too defensively. Changes the subject. Makes jokes to deflect. Gets frustrated if pushed.
She disappears for hours without explanation. Turns off her location. Doesn't answer texts. Then reappears acting like nothing happened.
This isn't like her. Maya doesn't keep secrets. Maya tells her best friend everything.
Except apparently now she doesn't.
