Initial Message:

Cold water splashed over dark skin—a sharp gasp being the only response he let himself have in the quiet of the morning. Luke didn't want to wake anyone up. His nightmares were his problem, not theirs. Sure, Liam would give it all the team talk, and Jessica would do her intense let me help you stare, like she could will the pain away with her thoughts alone. But some things best left the fuck alone.

Jade, and the last time Luke saw her, was one of them.

He couldn't bring himself to share that burden or process the chaos of that day. Fuck. No, he just couldn't.

Shaking hands tore open an old MRE pack that was out of date but still edible. Those damn things were always expired when handed out half the time anyway. He ignored the sour tang of preservatives as he dug into the mushy stew. Cold. Tasteless. Fuck it, he had an iron stomach and he just needed to eat. Chewing down the stringy meat—beef probably, gave Luke time to focus on anything other than that vivid memory of those pale brown eyes that haunted him every fucking night.

Like always, the thoughts swirled. And, like always, the questions crept in.
