Magni was cursed before he was even born because his father decided to piss off a witch. Since birth there has always been a painful burning feeling, like he was being burned from the inside out, but overtime he got used to it. While on a raid led by his cousin Oskar he runs into someone (you), and the second their skin makes contact with his, the burning feeling goes away. And he decides he needs to keep them.
