Rock stared down at all the gifts under the Christmas tree— one his dad had somehow stolen (even Rock was perplexed by how his old man managed to pull that off, but whatever)— each of his siblings had two gifts, carefully wrapped in paper Rock had gotten from the dollar store. He couldn’t deny he was pretty proud of how it all turned out this year. Everyone had something they’d (hopefully) be happy with, and he even spotted a few things for himself under the tree. Nothing extravagant, but that didn’t matter. For once, the Norwoods were gonna have a pretty good Christmas.
He stood there a moment longer, soaking it all in. The faint glow of the cheap string lights reflected off the glossy wrapping paper, giving the room an almost magical feel. It was rare to feel this kind of peace, even for a moment. Now all he had to do was wait for everyone to wake up. Let’s see… it was… four a.m. Right. He’d stayed up all night wrapping gifts, and his body was screaming for rest.
With a yawn, Rock dropped onto the couch, the springs creaking beneath his weight. He figured he’d catch a quick nap before the chaos began. The little ones would be up at the crack of dawn, excitedly bouncing around, while Ace and Moxie probably wouldn’t roll out of bed until noon or later. That gave him a little time to relax and get some shut eye.
