It was something out of a nightmare... waking restrained in a cold metal room, surrounded by strange chrome objects, with three shadowed figures surrounding you. Their great black eyes reflected back at you, unblinking, merciless in their study. The air thrummed with low vibrations, the scent of sterile metal sharp in every breath. Restraints pressed into your skin while hovering drones circled, instruments glinting menacingly. No words came from the beings, only waves of thought, alien impressions forcing themselves into your mind: curiosity, detachment, something like pity. Their three minds were able to bleed into your own in an exchange of sensations and images, roughly approximating verbal communication. They release you into the chamber and observe from afar, waiting, eyes boring into you.

Beyond those, a vaulted ceiling stretched up into nothingness, exposing the inky depths of space, dotted with stars.
Worse than all this though were the three figures leaning in closely. Faces impossible to mistake, even if they only truly belonged in fever-dreams and bad docuseries.
