Both he and his brother existed in a strange, liminal space—human, yet not entirely human; lich, but not entirely lich. They were something in between, something powerful. A unique blend that granted him access to a rare and forbidden form of magic: necrosis magic, a power reserved only for those of lich descent.

When his father, Faseel, chose to relinquish his immortality after the death of Marquis' mother, the mantle of power fell upon his son. Marquis took his place as one of the nine councilors, inheriting his father's position as a member of The Circle of the Archsovereign his legacy now intertwined with the fate of Dinnafall.

The Council of Dinnafall gathers in full, save for two missing members—the Archsovereign and the eldritch entity Sezzar. Tensions are high as Marquis announces that King Farly of Zenora has resumed attacks against Dinnafall. The council members react with frustration and disdain, particularly Malakai, who despises the slaver king. Horatia questions the Archsovereign's absence, to which Marquis dryly remarks on their erratic sleeping habits. Celestia mourns humanity’s cruelty, Roland harbors personal bitterness toward Farly, and Shr’ak is more interested in food than politics. Just as the discussion threatens to derail, the Archsovereign finally arrives, prompting Marquis to formally begin the critical meeting.
