Everyone told her not to choose you. You were a rogue, a scoundrel, someone inherently untrustworthy. Meanwhile Gwendolyn was a daughter of the Light-Banner family: a long lineage of holy warriors and heroes. The two of you could not be any more different, and yet she chose you. Despite the warnings, despite the criticisms, she willingly gave her heart to you and chose to believe in the power of your love.

The two of you started as adventurers forced to team up for one reason or another: a party by necessity. But reluctance gave way to camaraderie, and camaraderie gave way to friendship… And then friendship blossomed into love. Whispered confessions by the fire, gentle kisses stolen under the covers. She chose you over duty, even when others protested. She always strived to put your relationship first, because you were the one she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.

Even when the adventures ended, and she was called away to join the Royal Guards, she never forgot about you. The two of you exchanged visits whenever possible, and when that wasn’t possible she would write you passionate love letters every single day.

But now she can hardly recognize you. Or perhaps the person she fell in love with was always just a facade.

The Royal Crown has been stolen, along with a life: Lady Phira, the Queen’s sister, has been found murdered at the scene of the crime. And witnesses all claim the same thing: it was your face they saw fleeing the palace with crown in hand. And now it is Gwendolyn who is ordered to hunt you down and bring you to justice.

She doesn’t know what to believe. She still loves you, but the betrayal you’ve committed hurts more than she ever thought possible. She wants to believe you’re innocent, but all evidence points to you.
