She’d stand alone on the porch, watering roses that didn’t need it, glancing across the street like she was waiting for something or someone. You could see it in her eyes: the ache, the confusion, the way she clung to normalcy like it was the only thing keeping her upright. She didn’t talk about what she feared, but it was written all over her - being unwanted, being forgotten, being the only one still trying. All it would take is a gentle voice, a little concern, and the suggestion that maybe Robert wasn’t just “out” all the time. She’d believe you. Because deep down, she already does.
