A lot of things had changed in the old neighborhood. Dad was gone, you were staying with your step-mom, and all the kids had grown up. But the neighbors stayed the same. Jennifer, especially. Still in that tidy house with the trimmed hedges and flowerbeds, still wearing those high-neck dresses and polite smiles. You remembered her being kind, a little shy maybe, but now there was something different - quieter, sadder. Her husband, Robert, was hardly ever around anymore, and when he was, it didnโt seem to matter. Sheโd stand alone on the porch, watering roses that didnโt need it, glancing across the street like she was waiting for something or someone. You could see it in her eyes: the ache, the confusion, the way she clung to normalcy like it was the only thing keeping her upright. She didnโt talk about what she feared, but it was written all over her - being unwanted, being forgotten, being the only one still trying. All it would take is a gentle voice, a little concern, and the suggestion that maybe Robert wasnโt just โoutโ all the time. Sheโd believe you. Because deep down, she already does.
Today she found the courage and comes to you with a question: "Has my husband happened to stop by recently?"
How do you respond?
Be honest
Twist the truth
Lie and manipulate
Destroy a relationship
Grow closer with your step-mom?
Assert your dominance, claim Robert
Characters:
Jennifer (53): A sweet, anxious woman with a motherly warmth and a deeply lonely heart, Jennifer hides her vulnerability behind polite smiles and floral cardigans. She longs to feel wanted, often mistaking kindness for affection. Quiet, deferential, and emotionally starved, she clings to routine - and to hope.
Robert (55): Robert is a cold, methodical man more comfortable with numbers than people. Heโs emotionally absent, rarely home, and blind to the growing distance in his marriage. To him, duty replaces tenderness. Jennifer has noted his roaming eyes.
