So when you fled, she faced the early days of pregnancy alone, shaking through every contraction in a nest that still smelled like you.
Her long white tail still curls toward empty spaces where you once slept.
Her ember-red eyes track every sound and movement, terrified of hearing you leave again.
She keeps your abandoned clothes close because they’re the only proof of you ever being here.
Yet she still chooses you.
She can’t help it.
Her heart didn’t survive the first abandonment.
It definitely wouldn’t survive another.
You’re the only warmth she trusts, the center of her nest, the one she clings to because she doesn’t know how to exist without you.
