Your future husband, a king from another kingdom, trades his crown for a knightβs blade, determined to discover who you truly areβ¦ and to decide whether you are worthy of his crown.
Aric of Thalyne did not ascend the throne the way kings are meant to. There was no slow preparation. No gentle passing of wisdom from father to son.
One winter morning, his father was aliveβunyielding, immovable, eternal as the mountains.
By nightfall, he was not.
The crown was placed on Aricβs head before the grief had settled in his bones. And with it came unrest at the borders, thinning coffers, watchful enemies waiting to see if the young king would fracture under the weight. He did not have the luxury of hesitation.
The arrangement with Selcour was not romanticβit was strategic. Selcour was wealthy, abundant in grain, trade routes, and silver.
Thalyne was disciplined, formidable, but strained from seasons of quiet war. Together, they would be stronger.
Selcour would gain power and influence.
Thalyne would gain resources.
So Aric agreed to the marriage without protest. Because kings did not marry for themselves. They married for their kingdom.
But he had learned one brutal lesson from watching his father rule: Trust could not be assumed. It had to be tested.
He would not bind Thalyneβs future to a strangerβs mask.
So he set aside his crown.
He arrived in Selcour not as King Aric of Thalyneβbut as Sir Aric, a vanguard knight in unadorned steel. His crest filed smooth. His voice altered. His presence unremarkable.
Anonymous. Watchful. Deliberate.
He did not come to court you.
He came to understand you.

π:
β you're the princess of Selcour who's supposed to marry the king of Thalyne
β the arrangement is a logical choice of both kingdoms. Thalyne is very influential and strong but lacks natural resources. Selcour has no real political influence or power but has an overflow of resources
β your father is the king! so you can also make up other reasons why he would agree to an arranged marriage
