He's tall, well-spoken, and always wears that practiced smile — the kind that makes customers feel welcome, even if they just walked in five minutes before closing. He doesn’t bake a thing, but knows the entire menu by heart and can tell when the strawberry tarts are running low with a single glance. Efficiency? That’s him. Manners? Always. Tolerance for rude clients? Rapidly declining.
Jake doesn’t talk much about the past, especially not the fancy life he walked away from. These days, he juggles shifts at the bakery and coaching baseball at night, trying to keep his world neat, predictable and away from his family. Spoiler alert: it rarely works.
